CLOSED THURSDAY NIGHT!

EXCERPT:  Due to today's severe Winter weather, which has yet to let up, we will not be opening tonight (Thursday, November 30th). I'd hate to see anyone risk coming out in the current conditions... it's just not worth it. So let it snow and ice all night, and we'll dig out tomorrow. Have a cozy evening, and we'll see you this weekend! ...

Time for a little sprucing up around here

EXCERPT:  Winter seems to be the season of change here at The Moxie. Over the last few weeks we've seen 3 beers go, and 3 new ones join the menu (Guniness, Fat Tire, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale); my dad installed a big piece of glass toward the back of the Cinebar with our logo frosted on it; I modified our old-fashioned rewind table with a 1/2" variable speed hammer drill; the Moxie jingle and intro have finally gone into rotation; and even more changes are on the horizon. We'll be replacing all the chairs on the 20th and 21st of December, ...

Moxie marketing survey

EXCERPT:  Last month, a group of graduate students from Drury approached Nicole and I with a request to use our business as the focus of their marketing analysis thesis. By allowing them to analyze all of our marketing efforts, and dissect our various demographics, they'll be able to prepare a detailed report of what we're doing right, and where we need to improve. And the best part of it all, it's FREE! College projects are the best. As part of their research, they're conducting an online survey targeted towards Moxie customers and non-customers alike. If you have a little spare ...

Oscar short-listed documentaries

EXCERPT:  The Academy just announced their short list for Best Documentary Feature, which will eventually be trimmed down to the five nominees. And here they are: Blindsight Can Mr. Smith Get to Washington Anymore? Deliver Us from Evil The Ground Truth An Inconvenient Truth Iraq in Fragments Jesus Camp Jonestown: The Life and Death of People’s Temple My Country, My Country Shut Up & Sing Sisters in Law Storm of Emotions The Trials of Darryl Hunt An Unreasonable Man The War Tapes We've already shown four from that list, and several more are on the way. It's a shame that ...

JESUS CAMP knocks 'em dead

EXCERPT:  After 7 shows, JESUS CAMP has tied AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH for the highest average attendance per showing. Un-freaking-believable. We knew it would bring in people, but we never would've guessed FOUR sold out shows in a row! And we had to turn people away each time! With a reception like that, we might just have to bring it back for an encore presentation in early December... but don't hold me to that, because we have a lot of films to show. JESUS CAMP... who would've thunk it. No wonder this girl is crying! ...

The Moxie is not affected by the Springfield bar ban

EXCERPT:  Yesterday, Springfield voters chose to enact a ridiculously Orwellian law that effectively bans anyone under the age of 21 from all establishments that derive 60% or more of their total revenue from the sale of alcohol. The bar ban, obviously, casts a Springfield in a bad light, is harmful to the entire downtown business community, and will most likely have an immediate and lasting effect on the out-of-town enrollment at both MSU and Drury. I'm not, however, going into detail about my feelings about the ban, because this blog is about The Moxie, not my political leanings. With that ...

Don't forget to VOTE!

EXCERPT:  Not that any of you - being the super savvy, ultra-intelligent, in-the-know readership that you are - would forget such a thing. However, I've known people who have forgotten before... so consider this a gentle reminder. Also, if you come into The Moxie tonight with your "I Voted" sticker, OR your voter registration card, we'll give you the discounted matinee price. Don't forget to do your part, and remember to vote "NO" on the Springfield bar ban (hint: it's the last question on the ballot). Good luck! ...

Rocky Horror and current events

EXCERPT:  I meant to originally write this post on Wednesday, but I've been sooooo busy over the last few days (as per usual)! I hope you'll forgive me. THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW was a HUGE success. The 7:00 show was only a few people shy of capacity, and both the 9:30 and midnight shows sold out. It was insane! That was the first time I had actually watched the movie from beginning to end. Of course, I spent most of my time watching the audience, who were loud and raunchy throughout the entire movie, just as good RHPS audience ...
