This Weekend at The Moxie

EXCERPT:  It was a busy weekend here in Moxieland. We had POINT BREAK on Friday and Saturday night, the PEARL WHITE SILENT FILM SUMMER SERIES (P.W.S.F.S.S) also kicked off on Saturday night, and it marked our final weekend for the July Passport Series. POINT BREAK brought in some pretty good-sized crowds on both nights, but I was really impressed with the turnout we had at the Old Firehouse for the P.W.S.F.S.S. Despite the weather (it was really hot); despite a Springfield Cardinals home game; despite being the first weekend of the Ozark Empire Fair; and even despite going head-to-head with another ...

The Chair Up There

EXCERPT:  In a stunning and well-choreographed, early morning mission, my dad and uncles swooped in and fixed all the broken chairs in the auditorium. We once again have 75 comfortable vintage chairs. However, the process they used to fix the chairs can't be done more than once or twice, so as the chairs continue to break down, which they will, it will eventually get to a point where they'll need to be replaced... but let's not dwell on the negative. For now, we have a comfortable auditorium with 75 great little chairs. So next time you sit in a comfortable ...

Amazing Audition Tape

EXCERPT:  A long time ago, in late May, Nicole and I decided it would be fun to audition for The Amazing Race. Being huge fans of the show, and having the theater as our hook, we thought we might stand a chance. Apparently not. The first round of live auditions took place last week and our telephone never rang... not even once. Of course, we don't own a telephone, but I'm sure you're picking up what I'm trying to put down. So in lieu of a new MoxieTV (which, if the rumors are true, might be coming back soon), here ...

Chairs, chairs, everywhere, nor any place to sit

EXCERPT:  The "real" Coleridge line doesn't sound nearly as good as the oft misquoted "water, water, everywhere, but not a drop to drink," but since I'm a Inglish Majer I thought I'd use the right one and risk sounding pretentious. I'm AWESOME! At first, having an auditorium filled with vintage, low-back aluminum chairs sounded awesome - it was cool, it was retro, it was MOXIE - but now as they all slowly start to break, one-by-one, I'm wondering if we shouldn't upgrade to something newer. I should note, when I say "broken," I don't necessarily mean "impossible to sit in." ...

It. Is. So. Ridiculously. Hot.

EXCERPT:  I'm sorry I haven't posted lately, but this heat has melted my brain into a warm puddle of memories and long-forgotten Nintendo cheat codes. I know we're not alone - isn't half the country griped by a heat wave right now? - but still... IT'S DAMN HOT! I have an extension for Firefox that shows me the weather in my status bar, and for the last week and a half it's been flashing this icon that sort of resembles a red, flaming penis: I think it's supposed to be a thermometer, but COME ON! That's some bad ...

Forum and function

EXCERPT:  Due to the growing community of forum users, I decided it was time to upgrade the old Moxie Forum to something new and exciting. If you were a member of the old board, your same username and password gets you into the new one too. There are so many new features, I don't even know where to begin. Login (or sign up), take a look around, and I garauntee you'll like it better than the old forum. Wee haa! In other news, it's so hot here in Springfield that you could fry an egg just by taking it out ...

Heads up on Moxie Shorts

EXCERPT:  Just so you know, there are only 50 days left until the submission deadline for Moxie Shorts 2006. I've spoken to several people who are working on films (including a documentary!), so if you're thinking of submitting one too... you better get your butt in gear, man! Word. This friendly reminder was brought to you by Moxie Shorts 2006. ...

The INCONVENIENT truth, the whole INCONVENIENT truth, and nothing but the INCONVENIENT truth

EXCERPT:  Since we first informed everyone that we wouldn't be getting AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, a lot of things have changed. First, GO! Magazine wrote an article about what happened and published it in their latest edition. Then, on June 30th, Campbell opened the film to a less than stellar performance, which is important to note since the main reason for them getting it over us was based solely on their ability to earn more money on the draw. I'm not going to spill how much Campbell actually made on opening weekend, but I can assure that it was well within our ...

O PROPOSITION, O PROPOSTION, wherefore art thou PROPOSITION?

EXCERPT:  Monday As is the case on every Monday, we called the film couriers to make sure this week's films (WATER and THE PROPOSITION) were on their way. With the holiday falling on our regular delivery day, it was very important that we receive both films on Monday. WATER arrived at 2:00 pm... yay! But where was THE PROPOSITION? We called all the couriers, but none of them had THE PROPOSITION scheduled for delivery. In a panic, we called the distribution company. They're the ones responsible for releasing prints to the courier for delivery, so if anyone knew where the ...
