SATO 48 - Important news

EXCERPT:  For those of you who participated in the SATO 48 Hour Film Challenge, and want to buy tickets to the first public screening this Saturday... hurry up! We sold well over 30% of the tickets last night, and I'm sure the rest will be snatched up tonight and tomorrow. If you haven't already, check the updated film listing, where you can see all the films and find out which block yours will be playing in. If you only want to buy tickets to one or two blocks, do it online, but if you want to buy a pass for all ...

Maybe in May

EXCERPT:  Instead of just saying: "HEY! Here's what we're showing in May," I'm going to show you a picture from each movie and let you figure it out. Most of them are pretty easy, but there might be one or two in there that you have to use your ol' noggin to figure out. As for the line-up, I'm really excited about it (especially the second to last one). Two of the movies we were hoping to show in May have been pushed back a month, which means our June calendar is all but scheduled... and it's going to be pretty ...

Hory cow

EXCERPT:  Several things to mention in this post, so let's get moving: 48 Hour Film Challenge As I alluded to in my last post, the majority of this last weekend was spent working on a 5 minute short film for the SATO 48 Hour Film Challenge. Nicole and I sponsored a team - aptly named TEAM MOXIE - which was made up of Moxie employees and friends. The goal was to create a 5 minute short film using a predetermined prop and central theme. We had a blast... and by "blast," I mean multiple fights over who got more ...

48 Hour Film Challenge

EXCERPT:  I'm not dead... just buried in Team Moxie's 48 Hour Film Challenge. We have until 8:02 pm on Sunday to complete a 5 minute film. Wish us luck! I'll have more to report on Monday. Also, there's a new spam detection tool on the comment form. Let me know if you have any problems with it. I don't want it to be intrusive, but I had to do something... I was getting well over 2,000 spam comments a day. ...

Lysol Sanitizing Wipes: How I Love Thee

EXCERPT:  Let me start this post by stating, unequivocally, that I am NOT a corporate shill... though I am willing to listen to any and all offers. I love Lysol's Disposable Sanitizing Wipes. As a business owner, I'm faced with two distinct challenges every single day: 1) getting customers through our doors, and 2) cleaning up poorly-aimed urine from around the toilets. These faintly scented wipes protect my delicate hands from the vile ickiness of the toliet bowl... AND they're flushable! And if that weren't enough, they also make for great facial cleansing wipes*! *NOTE: This ...

Your moment of Zen

EXCERPT:  Well, there's not much going on at the ol' teatro today. NIGHT WATCH starts tonight at 9:15 pm, which I'm hoping will bring in the same size crowds that PULSE did. MRS. HENDERSON PRESENTS had a solid first week... although it was one of our worst weeks for concession sales. It seems there's a reverse correlation between age and concession spending... or maybe it's just the weather. All I know is that this is one of the worst "concession movies" we've had since LADIES IN LAVENDER. Wait a minute! It's Dame Judi Dench! She's a concession killer!!! And in ...

EXCERPT:  MoxieTV episode #4 went live last night, so do yourself a favor and go check it out! Other than that... I need to go eat some cereal for lunch. ...

I really, really hate taxes

EXCERPT:  I've said it once, and I'll say it again: I hate taxes. My total income for this year was well below poverty level, but I don't think that matters... for whatever reason. I know little to nothing about taxes, but my sister does (she's a CPA). So another year, another HUGE tax payment. With the money we spent on taxes this year, I could've... bought... something... pretty big. AND to make my day even worse, I just received this e-mail from the good people at ConAgra: Dear Mr. Chilton, Thank you for contacting us. We are always ...

Block Party... is it still on?

EXCERPT:  10:45 AM - 9 hours and 15 minutes away The sky is a nice grayish green with tendrils of lightning along the horizon. The National Weather Service upgraded their warning from "severe weather watch" to "EXPLOSIVE severe weather watch." If there's two things you don't want upgraded to explosive, it's extreme weather and diarrhea. As you can see, a giant blog of mighty percipitation is headed our way (see Springfield up in the top right corner). Storm systems move NE out of Texas and Oklahoma, which puts us right in line to get hit by this ...

Non-customers say the darnedest things

EXCERPT:  Dan - Thank you for calling The Moxie, this is Dan. Non-customer - Hi. I have a stupid question. Dan - Okay. Non-customer - I was given a gift certificate for your theater at Christmas, but I looked at your calendar and you're not showing anything that I want to see. Dan - Well, our gift certificates don't expire, so maybe you'll see something you like next month. Non-customer - Well, that's the thing. I've looked at your calendar for the last several months and I didn't see anything that I wanted to watch. Dan - Um hmm. (uncomfortable silence) ...

What's going on at The Moxie these days?

EXCERPT:  Sorry I haven't written much lately... it's been really busy around these parts. We've been running around trying to get everything ready for the block party on Thursday. We have two hip-hop bands booked (Acumen and Les Izmore), a stage "tentatively" rented, a beer kiosk coming from Budweiser, and a hot dog vendor who may or may not show up. Booking movies is one thing, but throwing together an event of this magnitude in a week's time... it's darn hard work, I tells ya. And to top everything off, it looks like we're going to have a gaggle of thunderstorms ...
