Blah blah blah... what's new

EXCERPT:  Wow! It's been a whirlwind of a week. Monday came and went, and I completely forgot to write a new post. In fact, I didn't remember until my dad asked me earlier today if I had stopped updating the blog. Thanks for the reminder dad. Between the additional showings of PAN'S LABYRINTH, which are still packing the house no matter when we schedule them, and the MFAS's film festival, we worked nearly 50 hours this last weekend. We barely had time to schedule in 7 hours of sleep! Either way, we made it through, and our film schedule is ...

PAN'S LABYRINTH and the five week stamina

EXCERPT:  The rumors are true. We're holding on to PAN'S LABYRINTH, and will continue playing it well into March. It's been an exhilarating ride from the day we were originally supposed to open PAN'S, and the projector exploded, to now. I have a feeling it's going to be a long, long time until another film comes along and surpasses PAN'S numbers. The best thing about the film, from a business standpoint, is the incredible amount of new faces it's been bringing to the theater. If I were to guess, which is exactly what I'm about to do, I'd say 50% of ...

Projector Pains

EXCERPT:  So, here's how it went down: Tuesday, 11:50 pm - We decided to have an "employees only" test screening of PAN'S LABYRINTH to help free up a few seats for paying customers on opening night, and to make sure the print looked okay. Everyone was there - Nate, Caleb, Ed, Justin, Nathaniel, Nicole, and me. A few minutes before midnight, I turned on the projector lamp and heard a noise that sounded like a fuse being lit. I saw smoke coming from the rectifier, so I immediately shut the projector off. I looked the rectifier over, and decided to ...

Moxie Cinema and the Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Day...aka The Projector Broke

EXCERPT:  UPDATE: The projector is working again. All shows are BACK ON, BABY! I always hate to be the bearer of bad news, but here it is anyways: Last night while we were testing the brand new beautiful print of Pan's Labyrinth, the projector pretty much exploded. It was scary - sparks and fumes, loud popping noises, and pieces flying about. It turns out something happened with either the rectifier (sp?) or the lamphouse, both of which are instrumental pieces for projecting a film onto our screen. Alas, Dan and Justin stayed up until early early morning taking ...

The one that was written really fast

EXCERPT:  This post was going to be about hemorrhoids, but I recently found out that 417 Magazine named The Moxie Blog one of the five best blogs in Springfield, so I guess I better act the part. I tell you what, those 417 folk are good people. My mind is a bit shot today, so this post is going to consist of as many small paragraphs I can write between now and when intermission rolls up in 15 minutes. It's like free association, only better because I'm drinking orange juice. Nicole and I went to Memphis last week to ...
