The Moxie, The Gillioz, and The Landers: Your friendly downtown cinema triumvirate

EXCERPT:  Over the last year, we've been working and consulting with The Gillioz in hopes of bringing 35mm film back to their gorgeous 1,200 seat movie palace, and I'm proud to finally announce that an agreement has been made between our two theaters. We're currently working on a fundraiser to help kick-start the projector budget, but if all goes as planned, you could start seeing Moxie premieres at The Gillioz as early as this Summer. By premiering our larger films at The Gillioz, we're hoping that we'll be able to impress the distributors enough to give us a little leverage ...

Valentine's Day 2007

EXCERPT:  After much deliberation and hand wringing, we have decided NOT to continue our tradition of showing films about female genital mutilation on Valentine's Day. I know this might come as a shock to the the four people who came to see MOOLAADE last year on Valentine's Day, but we decided to strike out and try something new. The coming of College Station

EXCERPT:  Ever since the College Station development broke ground about a month ago, people have been voicing their concern over the fate of The Moxie. For those of you who aren't from Springfield, and might not know what I'm talking about, College Station is a new downtown development that is being built a block ...

Moxie closings

EXCERPT:  The Moxie was closed yesterday, Saturday, January 13th, due to a complete power outage downtown. Our power just came back on, but we are remaining closed today, Sunday, January 14th, due to the intermittent status of the power, and the inclement weather. Assuming we have power tomorrow, we will be open with our regularly scheduled movies. We apologize for the inconvenience. Be safe and warm, everyone! ...

This is the first post of 2007

EXCERPT:  And it's not nearly as exciting as the title would have you think. I just want to make note of three things, and then I'll let you get back to whatever it is that you were just doing... right before you starting reading this. First, I'm making it my goal in 2007 to write one blog post per week. Nothing less, nothing more (well, maybe more, but don't hold your breath). If all goes according to plan, you can expect a new post every Monday, unless, of course, I'm in the hospital, on a cruise, or away from my ...
